How to watch The Office US in the UK

You have probably heard about The Office – one of the most popular shows around today.

You may also know that the show was originally a UK show, which was so popular and sought after, that the US made its own version for the US audience.

Unfortunately, much like the original show, the US version is also difficult to watch if you’re not in the United States.

That means if you’re a huge The Office fan you could miss out.

However, there’s a really simple way to watch the series if you’ve got a Netflix account and below I’ll be teaching you how.

Where can I stream The Office US?

The easiest way to watch The Office US in the UK is on Amazon Prime.

However, if you do not have Amazon Prime, US Netflix is your best alternative.

But, to access US Netflix from the UK, you will need to use a VPN app which I’ll explain all about – just keep scrolling.

What’s a VPN?

VPN, or ‘Virtual Private Network’, is an app that allows you to hide your real location and make it seem you’re located elsewhere. Any websites or apps you use will think you’re wherever you connect to on the VPN app.

With a VPN, you can make it appear like you are located in the US; this means you get access to the entire American movie and TV show catalogue.

The reason this is great news for you?…

… Well, because American Netflix has access to The Office US – whereas the UK edition of Netflix doesn’t.

Where to get a VPN?

VPNs became extremely popular in the last few years, and there are plenty of choices these days.

There are excellent services, but also some that are rather bad and poor-performing.

Some are very fast and perfect for streaming, while others are slow. Some, on the other hand, do not even work with US Netflix. So it pays to do a little research rather than just quickly Googling ‘VPN’ and plumping for the first you see.

In our most recent tests, we found that ExpressVPN is the best for accessing US Netflix.

It is one of the fastest VPNs, with one of the largest server networks in the industry. This is great for watching series like The Office because it allows you to watch in the highest quality without buffering.

They’re also about average price – while there are cheaper alternatives I don’t find they offer quite the same level of service.

If you do want to do a bit of shopping around, then it’s worth checking out CyberGhost VPN or NordVPN as they both offer decent services that will do the job too.

  2. Download the VPN app from their ‘Products’ section or search your usual app store.

As soon as you connect with the US server, you can use your regular Netflix account and watch any show or movie available in the US.

In other words, there is no need to get a new account or to change anything else. Netflix will provide you with new content automatically, based on where it thinks you are in the world.

Who stars in The Office US?

The Office US has an incredible cast that has allowed the show to explode during the eight years from 2005 to 2013.

It features Steve Carell (Michael Scott) and Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute), who also appeared in Star Trek: Discovery as Harry Mudd, as well as multiple movies, numerous shows, and even as a voice behind the iconic villain, Lex Luthor.

Apart from Wilson, there is also John Krasinski, who plays Jim Halpert, Jenna Fischer, who plays Pam Beesly, Leslie David Baker, who plays Stanley Hudson, and many others.

How does the US version differ from the UK one?

One of the most significant differences between the two versions of the shows is character development, where US characters tend to have some redeeming qualities and can change for the better, over time. In the UK version, this is not the case.

This approach to characters also allowed the UK’s David Brent character to make you cringe a bit more than Michael Scott, and appear irredeemable.

The same can be seen in the example of Pam and Dawn, where Pam, from the US version, goes through a significant transition during the show. Meanwhile, Dawn, from the UK version, stays the same – bound to her position as a receptionist throughout the show.

Even the UK’s Tim Canterbury is a bit more believable than the US’ Jim Halpert’s character, as the Brits prefer to keep it real and not let the underdog become an excellent catch overnight.

Other differences include the US’s increase in slapstick comedy, although many fans admire the fact it mainly stuck to satire.

Summary

The UK’s version of The Office was so interesting, and it presented a great way of bringing humour to the work-life of its characters, that it inspired a US version as well.

The US has made a longer show, and while it did change most of its characters’ personalities – it is still an enjoyable show to watch.

If you’re a big fan of the UK edition of the show it’s worth checking out the American offering.

Get yourself a VPN from ExpressVPN, connect to their United States location and you’ll be able to stream the series on the US Netflix service.
