How to watch Thai TV in the UK

Watching Thai TV

If you’re looking for a simple way to watch Thai TV in the UK then this guide is for you. In this guide I’m going to show you how you can watch Thai TV on any device using the quickest and easiest method.

There are somewhere in the region of 40,000 Thai born residents living in the UK either on a temporary or permanent basis. From students and workers to spouses.

Couple that with the many thousands of Thai visitors to the UK which most recently included famous actress Chompoo Araya and the Thai Prime Minister, Prayut Chan-o-cha and that makes for an awful lot of Thai citizens in the UK.

Sadly though watching Thai TV in the UK isn’t all that easy. Unlike communities such as the Indian one, there are no dedicated Thai TV channels even if you’re prepared to pay a subscription.

Don’t worry though because it’s incredibly easy to watch Thai TV in the UK and below I’m going to show you how.

Watch Thai TV in the UK

Thailand like most countries has multiple TV services, everything from Workpoint and CH3 Thailand to Mono29.

Just like anywhere else these TV channels have online streaming services streaming their service live online and also allowing you to watch on catch-up TV too.

Unfortunately though many of these online streaming services are restricted to watching from within Thailand only and if you try to visit in the UK you’re blocked from watching.

There is however a simple solution to this and that’s to use an app called a VPN. There are loads to choose from but ExpressVPN is my favourite.

A VPN allows you to change your online location from the UK to Thailand and make it appear to those websites that you are in Thailand. The result is, the channels are unblocked and you can watch as much Thai TV in the UK as you wish.

Just follow the steps below. It works for computers and laptops running Windows and Mac OS, tablets and phones running Android or Apple iOS and the Amazon Fire TV and Firestick.

Steps to stream TV from Thailand in the UK

To watch Thai TV you’ll need to get yourself an app called a VPN. VPN apps are offered by hundreds of companies these days and it can be difficult to know which one to choose.

My three recommended choices are:

  1. ExpressVPN – Reader’s Choice
  2. NordVPN
  3. CyberGhost VPN

I’ve been using ExpressVPN because they’ve got a bit more choice and on top of working with all devices they also work with the Amazon Fire TV and Firestick. Just follow the steps below.

  1. Visit the ExpressVPN website and sign up for their service.
  2. Once signed up go to the Products section of their website and download and install the correct app for your device. You can also search the Google Play, Amazon or Apple store for ‘ExpressVPN’ and install that way.
  3. Open the app and login when required, this will be either your username and password or activation code.
  4. Press Seelcted Location then All, then Asia Pacific and then tap Thailand.
  5. The app should start connection for you but if it doesn’t just tap the Connect button.

ExpressVPN Thailand

Once the ExpressVPN app has connected any websites or apps you use will think you’re in Thailand.

You’re now free to watch any Thai TV websites or use their apps as if you were in Thailand. Below I’ve put together a list of some of the best.

Thai TV Channels

If you’re looking for ideas of what to watch then below are a few of the best Thai TV channels which includes everything from news to sport and dramas.

You can visit most of these websites directly on your usual web-browser.

They even work if you’ve got an Amazon Fire TV or Firestick by installing Silk Browser and then visiting the websites above. This will allow you to watch Thai TV in the UK on your TV.

* If you’ve got a Netflix account then it’s also possible to watch Thai Netflix in the UK. The difference between Thai Netflix and UK Netflix is Thai Netflix allows you to have Thai subtitles or on some movies and TV Shows Thai dubbed audio.

Simply connect to Thailand on the ExpressVPN app and then visit Netflix as normal. You can also use the Netflix app on your Fire TV or Firestick. You’ll get a different selection of movies and TV shows but will be able to choose Thai subtitles and audio on most.

Watching Thai TV in the UK is a lot easier than you would imagine. Unlike a few years ago most Thai TV services now have online streaming.

To unblock most of these you’ll need to get yourself a VPN app that supports Thailand. My recommendation is ExpressVPN which you can get by clicking the button below.

Once you’ve got their app, connect to Thailand and then visit the Thai TV website of your choice. This works on all devices from computers and laptops to tablets and phones. It even works on the Amazon Fire TV and Firestick allowing you to watch Thai TV in the UK on your TV.

Hi there Christopher, reading this was so helpful. I love watching Thia TV particularly and seeing a different culture and TV presentation style. But I’m English and don’t speak Thia (slowly learning) and there was a remark in your article about subtitles. I’ve been trying to decide for a while now if I should use a VPN rather than watching on YouTube (some programs are not at all good quality) but now i realize it never crossed my mind that if I watch on a VPN will there be any subtitles ?? I would presume not. How could I find out before setting up a VPN account?

      Hi Robert,

Sadly, you’re correct. Most of the channels are in Thai language only so it wouldn’t be much help in helping you learn.
