Ever since the Coronavirus outbreak, people around the world withdrew to self-isolation and quarantines, which is the responsible thing to do.
However, sports lovers have had a pretty rough time recently, with most football leagues around the world being cancelled.
There is no Premier League, no La Liga, no Serie A, or even the Bundesliga and with an April return slated but looking unlikely, things are about to get a lot worse.
There is some spark of hope though, as not all have been cancelled, and while there is next to no live football – something can still be found.
Yes, the Belarus Premier League that everyone is talking about is still taking place.
Now, granted, it is not the greatest league, but football is football and right now, there’s not much of an alternative.
Officially most countries don’t show the league, for obvious reasons but there is a way to tune in and get your live football fix on the weekends. Scroll down to find out how.
What do you need to watch?
To watch, you will need to access the official Russian network, which is called MatchTV.
This is a free online channel for watching all kinds of sports, similar to Sky, BT Sport, ESPN, NBC, etc. without the subscription.
As such, it is great for watching live broadcasts of a lot of events that aren’t available elsewhere.
The problem is that it is geo-locked, so you would have to be in Russia to access the channel.
However, by using a VPN app, you can change your virtual location and make it seem like you are in Russia.
The result?…
You can live stream the Belarussian football where you are, be that the UK, USA, Australia or anywhere else.
Best place to get a VPN
If all of this sounds good to you, you might be wondering where to get a VPN.
Our recommended choice is Surfshark.
They’re one of very few services that offer connection points in Russia which is essential for viewing the matches.
They’ve also got apps for Android, Apple iOS, Windows, Mac, Fire TV and a whole host more so if you like watching football on your phone or you would rather stream on your big screen; there are solutions for all.
Alternatively, check out VyprVPN, they’re also suitable and the choice is yours.

What is the Belarus Premier League?
If you have never heard of the Belarus Premier League, don’t worry, you’re certainly not alone.
Let’s be honest, if there wasn’t a football drought dryer than the Sahara desert, most of us would continue to be blissfully unaware.
It is not very famous, but, as mentioned, there is not much choice these days.
The league started around since 1992, and the number of teams has varied over the years, including anywhere between 11 and 17 teams. The current number of teams is 16.
The current champion is Dinamo Breast, which won the league last year in 2019. However, the most successful team is BATE Borisov, which won 15 times in the previous 27 years.
Some of the best-known players include the likes of Ilya Shkurin, who was also the best scorer in 2019 (19), as well as Mikhail Gordeichuk, who was the best scorer in 2017 (18).
Pavel Savitski had the most goals in 2018 (15), while in 2016, it was a tie between Vitali Rodionov and Mikhail Gordeichuk, both of whom had 16 goals to their name.
At the time of writing Minsk sit top of the table but with just two games of the season played this is likely to change.
Live Stream Schedule
You can watch live games every Friday, Saturday and Sunday but here are the currently available matches:

- 12th April – 12:55 – Minsk v BATE
- 12th April – 16:55 – Dinamo Brest v Isloch
All times given are BST (UTC+1).
Personally, I’m waiting for Smolevichy-STI to meet Slutsk which makes for an interesting combination in English.
What else can I use the VPN for?
While a VPN is beneficial for watching the Belarus Premier League now, that doesn’t mean that you can (or should) only use it when there is nothing else to watch.
You can use it at any time to watch other football leagues live once they restart.
Of course, the current situation with coronavirus will likely last a while, and it is unknown when the matches will return.
But, you will be able to access streams from around the world when they do, so that is worth keeping in mind. And, of course, if you start to like the Belarus Premier League, you can become one of its regular viewers on Match TV.
Summary
The coronavirus outbreak has caused significant disruptions across the entire world, which is especially felt by sports lovers.
There is next to nothing sport-related to watch these days, and if you’re like me, you’re probably getting pretty annoyed by that fact.
But never fear, Belarus, that small eastern European country that you’ve likely never visited has the solution.
So grab Surfshark, download their app and connect to Russia. Then enjoy live streaming some of the only football left being played in the world.
Belarus’s president has suggested citizens should drink 50ml of Vodka per day to ward off the coronavirus and while experts disagree, that might make the Belarussian football that bit more interesting!
