If you are an ex-pat based in the UAE and struggling to get your Amazon Fire Stick working, don’t worry. In this article, I am going to tell you everything you need to know to get the most out of your Fire Stick.
The solution to your problems is a VPN. Without a VPN, you will be unable to access most of the available content on a Fire Stick. But with a VPN you will be able to unblock content such as the BBC iPlayer and ITV Player.
A VPN can help get Fire Stick’s from the UK, USA, and any other country working. It’ll also get the Amazon Fire TV working too. To find out exactly how to do this, just keep on reading.
Step 1: Get yourself a VPN service
To get your Fire Stick or Fire TV working, the first thing you need to do is sign up for a VPN. There are a lot of VPN providers on the market, but not all of them will work with a Fire Stick, so you need to be a bit careful when choosing.
I have tested all of the biggest VPN providers out there with a Fire Stick in the UAE and narrowed the market down to three providers, all of which not only work on the device but also offer a dedicated Fire Stick app to help keep things nice and simple.
My recommended VPNs are:
- ExpressVPN – My top recommendation
- CyberGhost VPN
- NordVPN
All of these three VPNs will do the job, but my top recommendation is ExpressVPN. ExpressVPN offers a superb and user-friendly dedicated Amazon app which makes using their service on either a Fire Stick or Fire TV really simple.
They have a huge server network, excellent security and privacy settings, and offer a fantastic 30-day money-back guarantee. This means you can try their service for up to a month and be sure that, if you aren’t totally satisfied, you won’t lose a penny.

Step 2: Unlock the Amazon Fire Stick in UAE
Once you have chosen your VPN provider, the next step is to get things set up. Don’t worry, this is a really straightforward process and requires no technical know-how whatsoever.
Just follow my simple, step-by-step guide to get everything set up. I have used our recommended VPN, ExpressVPN, connecting to the UK, as an example. But the process is much the same for other VPNs connecting to other countries too:
- Visit the ExpressVPN website, choose a subscription package and sign up for their service by following the on-screen instructions.
- Use the search function on your Fire Stick or Fire TV to locate and download the ExpressVPN app. Just search for ExpressVPN and it will be the top result.
- Click Install and then Open the app and login or activate it. Your activation code can be found in the ‘My Account’ area of their website.
- Select Selected Location and then press United Kingdom (or your chosen country).
- Wait for the app to automatically connect. If it doesn’t, just click Connect.
Once the connection has been established, your Fire Stick should now work as usual. All of the apps you use will think you are located in the UK.
If you find things aren’t working, the best thing to do is choose another UK-based location and try again. If you connected to UK – Manchester, for example, you should try UK – Docklands instead.

What apps will a VPN work with?
The short answer to this question is just about all of them. The apps I used most frequently on the Fire Stick were all streaming apps, and the majority of these are geo-blocked to a specific location.
When you connect to a VPN such as ExpressVPN, you are changing your IP Address, and this will fool most Fire Stick apps into thinking you are in the UK even when you are not. This means that you will be able to access the likes of ITV Player and All 4 without a problem.
Some apps, such as Netflix and the BBC iPlayer, have tried to block VPNs in the past.
All of my recommended VPNs will still unblock them, although you may have to try a few more servers before finding one that works. The only app that you may find difficult to get working is the Amazon prime app.
If you want to use apps that are geo-blocked to other countries, just choose a server from that country to get them working.
A Brief Summary
If you want to get an Amazon Fire Stick or Fire TV working in the UAE, all you need is a VPN. My recommended VPN for the job is ExpressVPN, as it offers a great service and a 30-day money-back guarantee which means there is no risk involved.
In this article, I have outlined a step-by-step guide to help you easily get ExpressVPN working on your Fire Stick. And if you sign up with ExpressVPN for a year today, you will get 3 months free and save 49% over paying monthly.
