Years ago VPN use was reserved for business types and those working remotely from the office but as privacy concerns have exploded home users are increasingly looking towards VPN use to protect their online privacy.
When personal VPN use started off simply having 1 connection was all that was needed but as whole households share the use across the family and individuals need to connect to a VPN on more than one device the requirement for VPN providers to offer simultaneous connections has become a necessity.
While some VPN providers have kept pace and offer more than 1 connection at a time others haven’t so we’ve put together this guide to keep you informed on which Top 5 VPN providers offer Simultaneous Connections and who is actually the best amongst those that do.
Top 5 VPNs that offer Simultaneous Connections

When it comes to simultaneous VPN connections LiquidVPN is the daddy of all providers. On their top priced package they offer up to 8 concurrent connections allowing users of their VPN service to connect on 8 different devices or by 8 different users.
With families often having more than one device the connections are soon eaten up but with a massive 8 this could allow a family of 4 to connect each on their desktop or laptop and at the same time connect on their phone or tablet. This is excellent news for those who want to keep the whole family protected for one price.
Access to 8 simultaneous connections is available on their Ultimate package which is priced at US$18 per month. The price can be further reduced by taking a 12 month package costing US$144 that works out at just $12 per month or US$1.50 per connection.
We’ve actually yet to see another provider who offers that many concurrent VPN connections and the only other option with other providers would be to sign up for multiple accounts costing considerably more. Other packages are available with fewer connections :-
- Sidekick, $6, 2 simultaneous connections
- Road Warrior, $10, 4 simultaneous connections
- Ultimate, $18, 8 simultaneous connections
LiquidVPN recently introduced a business package which for all intents and purpose is a standard package with the ability to have even more concurrent connections. Their lowest package contains 10 concurrent connections at a per month price of US$25.00 making each connection US$2.50, extend that to a year and you’re down to $1.75 per connection. Although the average user isn’t likely to need it LiquidVPN offer up to and including 1000 concurrent connections at $2500 per month.
With LiquidVPN being one of the fastest VPN providers we’ve used they’re certainly the top choice for simultaneous connections.
2. Private Internet Access
PrivateInternetAccess are one of the biggest VPN providers in the world and when it comes to simultaneous connections there is good reason why. PIA offer one type of package that is available in 1 month, 6 months and 12 months lengths. Each package length offers 5 concurrent connections.
As a standard service this is the largest amount of available simultaneous connections offered as far as we are aware by any VPN provider and is one of the biggest reasons why many people opt to sign up to PrivateInternetAccess.
Prices are extremely low when taking a full 12 month service. A one month package is available at US$6.95, 6 months costs US$35.95 and a full 12 month package is US$39.95. When broken down into a month cost that equates to just US$3.33 per month meaning each simultaneous connection is less than 67 cents!
Private Internet Access used to be quite limited for locations and offered the same range of locations for quite some time. Recently they have been expanding rapidly and have added server locations in Turkey, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Israel, Mexico and Brazil. These additions now make the service accessible to all users around the world and with 5 simultaneous connections you get a lot of service for relatively little money.
Added to the fact that PIA accept all major payment options is the ability to accept gift cards making them an attractive choice.
VyprVPN offers three different package types with their top “VyprVPN Premier” offering 3 simultaneous connections. On its own the Premier package is rather pricey coming in at US$19.99 per month but if you sign up for a year service this is drastically reduced to just US$10.00 per month. With the 3 concurrent connection offering at just US$10 it makes for an attractive proposition.
VyprVPN has long been a promoter of online privacy and are a regular feature in community initiatives to heighten the public’s awareness of privacy issues. Their owner often campaigns in such areas which for a VPN provider is a very good sign indeed.
They do offer two lesser packages with their “VyprVPN Pro” package costing US$14.99 per month or US$8.33 p/m if taken yearly that offers 2 simultaneous connections. Their lowest tier package is just $6.67 per month if taking a yearly package but sadly only allows 1 connection at a time so wouldn’t be suitable for you if you’re looking for a service that allows more than one user or one device at a time.
A huge range of server locations is offered worldwide making them a good choice for those who travel regularly or if you want to access a range of geo-restricted content. Big concurrent connection users will want to opt for their Premier package to take full advantage.
IPVanish certainly don’t offer the same amount of concurrent connections as some of the providers featured higher in this article, however, what they lack in simultaneous connections they make up in other areas.
The good news is that across the range of service lengths they offer 2 simultaneous connections. With some providers specifying what you can use a second connection for and others only offering 1 connection having 2 is a good starting place. For those who have a home desktop or laptop system but also want to keep a mobile device such as a phone or tablet secure the 2 available connections will suffice.
IPVanish don’t limit you to using 1 of the connections on a mobile device either so if you want to use it on two desktop systems, two tablets or a configuration of two of any other types of device then you’re free to.
The VPN service is nicely priced with 1 month costing US$10, 3 months costing US$26.99 and 12 months costing $77.99.
One of the strongest points of IPVanish is the speed of their network. Not only is it huge in terms of the countries it spans but regularly achieves some of the fastest VPN server results in our monthly speed tests.
If two connections will satisfy your needs then due to speeds available IPVanish would be our first choice provider.
Sadly some VPN providers still don’t allow more than 1 VPN connection at a time. In this day and age this just isn’t enough anymore with many of us owning more and more internet connected devices.
ExpressVPN answers this problem with their 2 simultaneous connection policy. ExpressVPN allows you to connect to their extensive VPN network with a desktop or laptop system and also at the same time with a mobile device.
Although ExpressVPN do specify that the second connection is for use on a mobile device it does open up the possibly of securing your mobile browsing habits that just isn’t available at some lesser providers.
While they may not allow as many connections as some of the providers above they do have a 30 day money back guarantee. So if you found the service wasn’t for you then you have a good period of time to be able to get your money back.
The conclusion to take is that having a VPN service allowing 1 connection just doesn’t cut the mustard anymore. While that may of been suitable 4 or 5 years ago the modern VPN user has a range of devices and with privacy becoming an important concern for all the need to secure your data not only from malicious criminals and hackers but also from the prying eyes of the government becomes ever greater.
With the 5 providers above offering simultaneous connections that range from 2 to 8 and then even up to 1000 you really do have a good selection of providers to choose from.
So if you have a large family or just own multiple internet connected devices it’s now possible to secure all of your internet connections from one VPN account and at prices that compete with or are less than those that only offer 1 connection.
We hope you’ve found this guide useful but if you have any suggestions of VPN providers with a good selection of simultaneous connections or questions about any of the services please feel free to post in our comments section.
