NordVPN has long been one of our favourite VPNs here at VPNCompare, thanks largely to its commitment to the privacy and security of its users.

It was among the first major premium VPN providers to submit itself to an independent privacy audit, and now it has completed the fourth such audit.

Detailed Overview of NordVPN’s Privacy Audits

The first audit took place back in 2018, and the follow-ups have taken place in 2020, 2022, and now 2024. NordVPN’s determination to reassure their users about the privacy and security of their online data is clear, and these bi-annual audits only serve to reemphasise that.

This latest independent privacy audit was carried out by Deloitte, one of the big four firms. They have confirmed that NordVPN does not log user’s online activity and does not use trackers or anything else to monitor what their users are getting up to online.

As part of the audit, Deloitte’s independent team interviewed a large number of NordVPN employees to ask them about their roles and the data they see in the course of their work.

Deloitte’s Comprehensive Audit Findings

They also examined the company’s server infrastructure, its server configuration, and reems of technical logs. They also reviewed NordVPN’s privacy relevant configuration settings and procedures on all of their Obfuscated, Double VPN, Standard VPN, Onion Over VPN (TOR), and P2P servers.

NordVPN gave Deloitte full access to their company and all the data they wanted between November 30th and December 7th, 2023.

The Deloitte team saw no evidence of NordVPN engaging in any form of practice that in any way violated the company’s no-logs statement.

They went on to confirm the NordVPN claim that they do not store any incoming or outgoing traffic data, any user’s real IP addresses, their browsing histories, or the websites they have visited.

Commenting on the latest audit, NordVPN’s Chief Technology Officer, Marijus Briedis, said, “While we work hard to create and develop world-leading cybersecurity solutions to protect our customers, we also take privacy very seriously, and we are fully committed to our promise to not monitor or record the online traffic of our users.”

“We firmly believe that a no-logs policy should be an industry standard,” he continued, “and that an independent assurance engagement by a trusted Big Four firm reassures customers of our commitment to a safer and radically better internet.”

We fully concur here at VPNCompare, which is why NordVPN remains one of our top 3 recommended VPNs and one of the most popular, widely used, and effective premium VPNs on the market right now.

If you want a value for money premium VPN that you can be confident will keep your data safe and private, NordVPN remains a terrific option.
