Last month on November 12th 2013 we did an in-depth review of IPVanish. The service was fantastic and we summed up the review with the following comment
Overall we would definitely recommend considering IPVanish as a very well rounded and wide ranging VPN provider, all the required elements are available and the speeds top notch, an excellent service from a professional looking company.
The only concerns we had came down to a few minor details of their custom software. Although the software was easy to use and well thought out we picked out a handful of areas in which it could be improved from general operating to the way certain areas of it functioned when viewing from a user perspective. It was definitely not the case that any of these areas highlighted would fall under the “critical” banner but would definitely improve the ease of use of the software.
So I am pleased to let you know (rather late, admittedly) – IPVanish took the comments on-board and just 10 days after the review pushed out an update for their Windows client releasing version 188.8.131.52. With this they fixed and answered every critique that we had given of their custom software thus improving it ten fold in the process with these minor updates. So a quick run down of everything we mentioned and they fixed the lot which can be seen in their “Improvements” list with the release :-
- OpenVPN is back in the main protocol selection and no longer needs to be activated via the preferences.
- The X button no longer closes app but instead minimizes the application to the system tray.
- The IPVanish client now remembers the last used protocol.
- The task bar icon now shows connection status.
- Client will no longer ping all servers while it is connected to VPN.
So, top marks to IPVanish for taking criticism well and acting so swiftly on it. A measure of a companies worth is based on how well they react to criticism, IPVanish definitely took the challenge and conquered it without question.
