Cycling has had a massive boom in interest lately especially in the UK and our very own Tour of Britain kicks off today September 7th 2014 from Liverpool. A lot of people across Europe and even the world are interested and I’ve had quite a few emails asking for an article on how to watch the 2014 Tour of Britain online.
Unfortunately the first stage setting off from Liverpool is only available on Eurosport for which you need an account to access, if you do have a Eurosport account then you can follow this guide because the process is exactly the same for watching as what I’m about to explain. The tour of Britain is made up of 8 stages which starts in Liverpool on September 7th 2014 and ends on 14th September 2014 in London.
Apart from Stage 1 the other 7 stages are being shown live on ITV 4 daily, from around mid-day most days give or take an hour or two. If you live in the UK then just simply head over to ITV Player and select ITV 4. You can watch without any issue or doing anything extra online.
For those of you who are outside the UK you will find that ITV4 is blocked. Your internet connection gives away your location and so the website knows you’re not in the UK. So if you live anywhere in the world outside of Britain then you’ll need to sign up for a service called a VPN which stands for Virtual Private Network.
A VPN has many uses which are explained in our Top 4 reasons to use a VPN at home guide but for the purpose of watching the Tour of Britain online the magic of a VPN is it allows you to mask your location. It’s an extremely simple process that after signup won’t take you more than 30 seconds to get connected.
So firstly you’ll need to sign up to a VPN provider who offers good speeds. We list a whole range of providers in our VPN Comparison Guide so feel free to have a browse through those. To watch the Tour of Britain online we recommend a provider who offers top speeds, this means no matter where you are in the world you won’t suffer any slow downs or buffering which could ruin your watching enjoyment. Have a look at the three recommended providers below. With VyprVPN you can even get a free three day trial to see it working before you pay :-
The cost per month is actually pretty cheap and comes in about US$5-10 which is roughly £3-6 depending on which package you take. You can save even more if you take a yearly account depending what’s best for yourself. Once signed up you can download either software for your desktop/laptop or apps for your tablet/mobile and within one or two clicks be up and running.
Once you’ve installed either their software or apps, connect to a UK server and head over to ITV Player and select ITV 4. No matter where you are in the world you’ll now be able to watch the Tour of Britain 2014 online live.
The schedule of the times the tour is being shown plus full route details can be seen at the Stages page of the Tour of Britain website.
If you’re still wondering if it’ll be difficult take a look at our example video in which we watch ITV Player using VyprVPN.
You’re now free to watch the full tour of Britain in Spain, France, Germany, USA, Australia and anywhere else in the world you are right now!
