After the success of the inaugural stages of the Tour de France in Yorkshire, England in 2014 the organisers took the opportunity to create a unique dedicated event. The Tour de Yorkshire is now a Cycling event in its own right and will be shown live on TV. In this article I’ll look at how to watch the Tour de Yorkshire live online and also methods to watch outside the UK. While road Cycling is extremely popular in mainland Europe and also in countries such as the US and Australia is has been slightly out of favour in the United Kingdom. The Tour de France starting in the UK plus a host of recent British Cycling winners has exploded the interest of Cycling in the UK and lead to many taking up the sport. The tour promises to be an exciting three-day event taking in some stunning scenery of the British countryside.
Where to watch the Tour de Yorkshire
The Tour De Yorkshire will be being shown live on ITV 4 on Friday 29th April, Saturday 30th April culminating in the final stage on Sunday 1st May 2016.
Cable, Sky and Freeview viewers can watch live on their TV from 11:45 each day until 17:00. Highlights will be shown on ITV 4 between 19:00 and 20:00 each day.

- Stage 3, Middlesbrough to Scarborough
To watch live online, ITV 4 is available on ITV Player and will be available following the same schedule as the Cable, Sky and Freeview viewings.
How to watch the Tour de Yorkshire abroad
To watch the Tour de Yorkshire abroad or outside the UK you need to have a UK IP Address. Each internet connection has a unique identifier known as an IP Address and from this any website you visit can understand your location.
When attempting to visit ITV 4 on ITV Player you’ll be blocked because you’re outside the UK.
To get a UK IP Address you need a service known as a VPN (Virtual Private Network). A VPN allows a small program to be downloaded which then allows you to have a UK IP Address and appear as if you’re in the UK. You will then be able to watch the Tour de Yorkshire online on ITV Player from anywhere in the world.
There are plenty of VPN providers available but if you don’t have time to be comparing them all one we do recommend for watching the tour is IPVanish. They have easy software to download for a range of computers and devices plus we found them to be one of the most reliable in our recent review.
How do I use the VPN service
A good VPN service for watching the Tour De Yorkshire abroad should cost you between $5-$10 per month (approx £3-£7) and all the suggested providers above supply software or apps for all devices. This allows you to watch on PC, Mac, Android, iPhone or iPad.
As an example, I’ll walk you through the process of using IPVanish with Windows to watch the Tour de Yorkshire abroad. The process is near enough exactly the same for other devices and providers.
- Visit the IPVanish website and click Start Now to sign up.
- Once signed up click VPN Apps on their website.
- Click Windows and then click Download Software. Download the file to your desktop.
- Double click on the downloaded file and follow the installation process.
- Once installed, run the software.
- Click Server Selection on the left-hand side.
- Now click UK Media or Gaming.
- Wait for the Connected! notification then visit ITV 4 on ITV Player.
