How to Watch the Premier League 2016/17 Abroad

Premier League 2016/17

The Premier League started on August 13th and if you’re like me you’ll be excited to see how this season will turn out.

Last season Leicester City surprised everyone and won the league but will it be possible again this season? With Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal all looking strong and the first season Jurgen Klopp has really made a player stamp on Liverpool there will be tough competition to take the title this year.

If you’ve got Sky Sports, BT Sport, Now TV or one of the other streaming services that show the English Premier League then you’ll be able to keep up with all the action but if you travel outside the country you’ll be unable to watch.

In this guide I’m going to show you how you can watch your subscription account from anywhere in the world and if you don’t already have an account with one of the major streaming sites I’ll also show you how you can access all the football action from other legal sources.

How to Watch the Premier League 2016/17 Abroad

If you’ve tried to access your Sky Sports or BT Sport account when outside the UK then you’ll already be aware it is blocked from viewing and you’ll see a message similar to the following.

The sites know that you’re outside the UK and stop you from viewing. As a paying customer this has always seemed strange to me and really you should be able to access the content you pay for regardless of where you are in the world.

The great news is there is a way to access either your Sky Sports, BT Sport or other streaming account from anywhere in the world.

All you need is a small tool called a VPN that allows you to disguise your online location and appear elsewhere. For example if you’re in the United States you can make it appear as if you’re in the UK by using a VPN. Even better they’re really easy to use and cheap too.

Let’s take a look where you can get a VPN service below.

Where to get a VPN and how to use it

VPN services are available from a wide range of providers meaning there is a lot of choice available. To stream the Premier League abroad you need to use a VPN service that is fast because you’re streaming video.

I’ve tested some of the leading VPN providers to see who offers the best service for watching the Premiership abroad and the following three providers came out on top.

  1. IPVanish
  2. ExpressVPN
  3. StrongVPN

All you need to do is click one of the names above to visit the website and sign-up. A good VPN service should cost no more than $10 per month (approx £7.71) but can be cheaper if you take an annual package to last all season.

Once you’ve signed up all you need to do is download the software or app for your device including Windows, Mac, Android and iOS.

For example with IPVanish simply download their software, install, run and then select United Kingdom (1.) and then press Connect (2.)

IPVanish UK Server

The software will make connection for you and once connected you can then visit the Sky Sports, BT Sport, Now TV or other streaming service and you’ll be able to watch as if you were in the UK.

How to watch abroad if you don’t have a Sky Sports, BT Sport, etc. account

If you don’t have a Sky Sports, BT Sport, or other subscription then no need to worry as there are plenty of options from around the world that you can access in the UK to watch the Premier League, some are cheaper than UK options and others are even free.

Below is a round-up of services you can use to watch the Premiership using any of the three VPN providers listed above.

If you don’t have any of the premium subscription services like Sky Sports or BT Sport then you can sign up to a subscription free service called NowTV.

You can sign-up by using this link and then use the VPN service to watch from anywhere else. It basically gives you access to Sky Sports.

SBS from Australia are showing 1 Premier League match per week for free. All you need to do is sign up to one of the VPN services above such as IPVanish that offer an Australian connection and then visit The World Game page from SBS using this link.

While you won’t get to see every match it is free and all you need is the VPN service so it isn’t bad for a freebie!

If you know someone in the United States who has a cable subscription the chances are they get access to NBC.

NBC show all of the Premiership matches so as long as you can borrow their cable login details you can login, use a VPN service to connect to the United States and then watch every match available.

NBCSport matches are available here but remember you’ll need access to US cable login details to use this anywhere in the world.
