How to watch the Paralympic Games 2016 abroad

If you’re interested in watching the Paralympic Games live online from Rio, Brazil then your options can be extremely limited.

While the Olympics were showing on many different channels and networks around the world the same can’t be said for the Paralympics. Unfortunately although the sporting event is as important as the main Olympics it seems networks around the world just don’t show it to the same standard.

If you live in the UK then you can watch most events live on Channel 4 as they’ll be showing good coverage of the games. You’ll also be able to use All 4 to watch online.

If you’re outside the UK then your choices are limited but the good news is there is a way in which you can access All 4 online from anywhere in the world and watch all the Paralympic events.

In this easy to follow guide I’m going to show you how you can watch the Paralympic Games abroad from anywhere in the world.

How to watch the Paralympic Games 2016 abroad

If you’re a UK resident and you’re currently outside the UK as an expat, travelling or for whatever other reason or if you’ve never been to the UK but still want to access the extensive English coverage on All 4 and you’ve already tried to access the site then you’ll be met with a block screen similar to the one below.

You’re in luck though because there is a really simple way you can alter your online location so any website that you visit will see you’re in a different location than the one you are currently in.

So if you’re in the USA for example you can make it appear as if you’re in the UK and any website you visit will then think you are in the UK and in the case of All 4 you’ll be able to stream the Paralympics abroad regardless of where you are in the world.

The simple solution is a tool called a VPN or Virtual Private Network. A VPN is simply a small piece of software for your desktop computer or an app for your tablet or mobile and within just a few clicks you can be set-up and ready to go, no technical knowledge is required.

So let’s find out where you can get a VPN service below.

Where can I get a VPN service

If you’ve already done some research and started looking for a VPN to watch the Paralympics online abroad then you’ll know like me the array of options can be baffling.

Just a quick search can throw up thousands of VPN services and like all things in life no two services are the same.

A good VPN service should cost you between £5-£8 per month (approx $5-$10). They’re cheaper if you sign up for an annual package but if you only want to watch the Paralympics then you’ll only need one month.

The provider should offer a UK Server, thankfully most do. I’ve been testing a selection of the best providers to see which is most suitable for watching the Paralympics abroad and found that IPVanish is not only the fastest but also one of the cheapest.

I’ve put together a list of three of the best VPN providers to watch the Paralympic Games online abroad below.

  1. IPVanish
  2. ExpressVPN
  3. StrongVPN

Just click one of the names above to visit the VPN provider’s website and sign up. After signing up keep reading below where I’ll show you just how easy it is to use the VPN to watch the Paralympic Games abroad.

How to use the VPN to watch the Paralympics

First decide what device you want to watch on. It’s best if you use a desktop or laptop computer but it’s also possible to use on a tablet or phone.

Once you’ve decided download the correct software or app for your device. You can swap between devices with one account so you’re not locked into one type of device.

After you’ve downloaded and installed the software or app simply log in and then connect to one of their UK Servers.

Once connected just visit the All 4 website where you’ll be able to stream live or on catch-up TV where available.

If you signed up to IPVanish I’ve put together a little step-by-step guide showing the process in more depth. This is for Windows or Mac but it’s much the same using the other providers and the apps are even easier.

  1. Visit the VPN apps section of the IPVanish website and download the correct software for your system.
  2. Install and run it.
  3. Click Server Selection.
  4. Click UK Media or Gaming.

IPVanish Windows software.

The IPVanish software will now make connection. Once connected you can visit the All 4 website and watch the Paralympics from anywhere in the world.
