Love it or loath it Britain’s Got Talent is back and if you’re outside the UK then you’ll want to know how to watch it abroad.
While shows like the X-Factor have been steadily declining year on year in terms of viewer numbers, Britain’s Got Talent is one that has bucked the trend and continues to draw millions of viewers weekly through the audition process and on to the live shows.
So if you or a family member love Britain’s Got Talent but you’re outside the UK on holiday, travelling, working or whatever other reason then you’ll surely need your fix and in this article I’m going to show you the incredibly easy way in which you can do this.
How to Watch Britain’s Got Talent Abroad
Britain’s Got Talent is shown on ITV with More Talent shown on ITV 2.
Both ITV and ITV 2 are available to watch live online on ITV Player as long as you’re in the UK. You can also watch both shows on catch-up on ITV Player.
If you’re outside the UK then ITV Player checks your internet connection and if it sees that you’re not in the UK then it blocks you from watching BGT.
This isn’t much use if you’re abroad and desperate to watch the weekly show.
The good news is there is a way to watch Britain’s Got Talent abroad and it’s really easy. It’s also possible to watch on a desktop, laptop, tablet or even phone!
What you need to do is sign-up to a service called a VPN. A VPN basically allows you to spoof your location and appear in another country. If you’re in France, for example, a VPN allows you to appear as if you’re in the UK and instead of ITV Player blocking you, it’ll allow you to watch Britain’s Got Talent.
VPN services cost around £4-£7 ($5-$10) depending on how long you sign-up for, if you take a yearly package then the price is cheaper so if you’re away for a longer period of time it’s worth considering.
There are plenty of VPN service providers so let’s take a look at some suitable to watch Britain’s Got Talent abroad.
Where to get the best VPN
If you type “VPN” into Google there are a mind-boggling amount of companies to choose from and knowing which to pick can be confusing and time consuming.
You’ll need a provider that offers a “UK VPN Server” as this will enable you to watch BGT from abroad. You’ll also need a quality VPN provider that offers good speeds because you’ll be essentially streaming video from the UK to your location.
I’ve been testing various leading VPN service providers in recent weeks to find out who is best for the job and come to the conclusion that IPVanish is. Not only do they offer some of the fastest speeds, they’re also offer one of the best services.

How do I use the VPN to watch BGT
Firstly decide whether you want to watch on a desktop/laptop (PC or Mac) or on a tablet or mobile.
If you want to watch on an Android or iOS tablet or mobile then you will need to have downloaded the ITV Player app prior to leaving the UK. If you’re already outside the UK then it’s possible to download the ITV Player app using an alternative method for Android but it’s not possible on iOS devices.
Next download the VPN app from the relevant app store. Connect to a UK server and then launch the ITV Player app to watch Britain’s Got Talent abroad.
Desktop/Laptop (PC or Mac):
The software for PC and Mac are almost identical from the three recommended VPN providers.
Firstly download the required software for your system and install it.
You’ll need to log in with the username and password you either created when you signed up or that was supplied to you in your welcome email.
Next, simply connect to a UK server.
For example on the IPVanish Windows or Mac software you can do this by clicking United Kingdom and then Connect as can be seen in the example image below.
IPVanish Windows software.
Once the software has made connection you can visit the ITV Player website also known as the ITV Hub.
If you already have an ITV Player account simply sign in and watch as you normally would. If you don’t have an ITV Player account then you’ll need to create one. You’ll need to supply a UK Post Code. If you’ve left the UK or you’re not from the UK then you can enter any, a quick search of Google for “UK Post Codes” should easily find you one.
