With the explosion in available TV channels greatly changing over the past 20 years it goes without saying that one of the best UK TV channels is still Channel 4. With some amazing series such as Coach Trip, Come Dine with Me, Undercover Boss and more, Channel 4 offers some very good alternative programming to the other usual mainstream channels.
While Hollyoaks isn’t exactly on my TV watch list it is rather popular which is true for many Channel 4 programmes. So those of you find yourselves as a Brit abroad you will be wondering how can I watch 4OD abroad?
How can I watch 4OD abroad?
Unfortunately for anyone who has attempted to do that it only ends in disappointment as the service is blocked outside of the UK. Rather than being able to watch your intended show you’re faced with a block screen similar to below.
You will be pleased to know that IT IS possible to watch 4OD outside the UK with a cheeky little workaround.
To do this you need to sign up for a service called a Virtual Private Network (VPN), this amongst other things allows you to disguise your actual location. When you visit the 4OD website it knows that you’re not inside the UK which is why it declines to stream you the shows that you wish to watch.
With a Virtual Private Network you can connect to a server inside the UK making it appear as if you are physically located there no matter where you are in the world.
Due to the 4OD website now thinking you are actually in the UK it will let you play any of the programmes available on the service without any issue.
There are hundreds of providers of VPN services, some good, some bad, three we recommend for this purpose are given below, just click their names to visit their individual sites. All three have been tested by ourselves in our VPN review section and found to be 3 of the best VPN providers available.
All three services offer simple software, apps or set-up guides for Windows, Mac, iPad/iPhone and Android systems so within 1 or 2 clicks you can be connected and watching 4OD abroad with as minimal fuss as possible. if you don’t believe how easy it is just take a look at our video guide at the bottom of this article.
The prices range from between US$5-US$12 which is roughly £4-£7 per month, all three work out cheaper if you take a yearly package so it is well worth considering if you intend to be outside of the UK for an extended period of time. The three given are three of the best for streaming video but there are plenty of other providers who can be browsed in our VPN comparison guide.
