How to access other country’s Google search

Google search results

Google is the most powerful search tool in the world but you're often restricted to searching within your local version of Google.

In this guide we're going to show you how you can access different regions of Google and in the process get different search results.

Google likes to keep things localised, after all you'll get the most relevant results.

But what if you want to know the results of another location of Google or you're from another country and you want to access your home version of Google.

Below we'll show you how by using a VPN you can access any region of Google you want.

What you'll need to use Google from overseas

When you visit Google you're pushed to a localised version of their website.

For example, when we type in google.com from the UK we're automatically pushed to Google.co.uk. When we do an example search for “the best place” we're automatically given options such as “to live in the UK”.

Google UK Search

If you want to access the United States search results for example it's impossible.

But there is a way and to do this you'll need to get yourself an app called a VPN.

Where to get a VPN

To get yourself a VPN you'll need to choose from one of over 500 services.

Not all are good, but in our testing we found ExpressVPN to be about the best. They're super quick to set up and they have a 30-day money back guarantee which makes it risk-free to give them a try.

Other good options include NordVPN and CyberGhost so check them out too if you've got time to do some shopping about. However, they all cost roughly the same.

Steps to unlock Google from abroad

In the example below I'm using my recommended provider ExpressVPN but these steps are more or less the same regardless of who you choose.

  1. Visit the VPN provider ExpressVPN and tap Get ExpressVPN.
  2. Create an account and complete the sign up process.
  3. Download their app from their website or your usual app store.
  4. Select the country of Google you want to access, for example; United States.
  5. Press Connect.
ExpressVPN app connecting to a US server

Select the country of Google you want to access.

30-day money back guarantee

After about 15 seconds the ExpressVPN app or software will tell you it's connected.

It's best to clear your browser cache or open an inprivate or incognito window but it's not essential.

Then just visit your chosen Google site, for example, Google.com.

Now instead of being pushed to a localised version of Google, you'll be able to access the specific Google site you want.

Now it's time to try that same search “the best place”.

Google US Search

We're now given a completely different set of results such as “to live”, “to live in the us” and “to live in Washington state”.

What do Google search results mean?

The result shows that depending on what localised version of the Google site you use depends on the outcome of the search suggestions and even the search results.

Google rightly attempt to serve you the most relevant content based on location.

If you want to access generalised content or content from another country then it's best to search on that countries specific site.

The results are great if you're into SEO or trying to learn the search results from a specific region to improve your website.

It's also good if you live in another country and want to access results from your home country.

What are the benefits of using Google from another country?

The positives far outweigh the negatives, here are some of the leading ones:

  • Get localised content from anywhere
  • Vary your results
  • Research for SEO purposes
  • Research for business purposes
  • Receive results unavailable in your location

What are the negatives of using Google from another country?

It's not all beneficial, a couple of negatives include:

  • Results not tailored to your needs
  • Results in a language you don't understand
  • Restricted results depending on the country

Alternative VPN services

There are alternative VPN services as explained above and you don't need to just stick with ExpressVPN.

The reason we recommend ExpressVPN is that they have over 94 different worldwide locations which gives you plenty of scope for accessing many different regions of Google.

They also offer apps for both Android and iOS devices and software for traditional desktops and laptops. Both the apps and software are incredibly easy to use so even if you're a beginner you can connect and access different regions of Google.

If you have a bit of time on your hands though and you want to shop about then we also recommend the following providers too:

The process is exactly the same as with ExpressVPN, just visit one of the providers above, sign up to their service and then download their app or software.

Once connected you can visit any region of Google.

A few to try are Google.com, Google.co.uk, Google.com.au, Google.fr, Google.de etc.

Don't forget, all you need is a VPN. You can get one by clicking the button below and following the instructions from earlier in this article.
