How to use a VPN to get AP scores early

Teenagers happy at receiving positive exam results

The Advanced Placement (AP) exams are approaching, and as the last years have taught us, this can be a very stressful period if you're a student.

Not only are the exams themselves stressful, but the fact that you cannot see the results at the same time as others just because of your physical location also comes as a big annoyance.

After all, it has been months of hard work for you and other students across the US, and it is not fair for them to have to wait for days to see your results just because of the state you live in.

Fortunately, you can solve this problem quickly and there's a way to get access to your results much earlier than usual. Keep scrolling to discover how.

What you will need

Typically, to see your results, you would have to be in a state that has early access, which can sometimes mean that you get to see your results up to four days earlier than most.

Take last year as an example. Students from Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, North Carolina, Virginia, Oklahoma, and a few other states saw their results on July 6th.

Meanwhile, those from Arizona, Iowa, Nebraska, Utah, North Dakota, and plenty of other states had to wait until July 9th.

That is days of wondering and stressing out, and you should not have to go through that.

Fortunately, all you need to do is to be in the right state – or at least appear to be in the right state – at the right time.

Typically, this would mean having to travel to one of the states that will get the results first. This is pretty impractical though, not to mention, expensive!

Or you could ask someone who lives there to get the results for you. But, if you don't have any friends or relatives there, that can be a problem.

There is another way and that's using a tiny app called a ‘VPN‘. Find out what that is, how it helps and how it works below.

What is a VPN and how can it help?

As you may know, VPNs are apps that you can use to protect yourself online and achieve security, privacy, and part-anonymity.

They work by encrypting and hiding your traffic from view, but they have another functionality – one that is a lot more useful in this situation.

This is the ability to let you change your online location. You see, VPNs have server networks, which consist of servers located all across the world.

By connecting to any of these servers, you can appear to be located in the same location as the server you connected to.

So, even if you live in Wyoming, and should see your results on July 9th, you can use a VPN to connect to a server in Tennessee and see them on July 6th.

Sounds interesting, right?

Which VPN should you use?

The VPN industry has grown to be rather large, and there are plenty of VPNs available these days.

However, that doesn't mean that they are all good enough to be used. Some are not safe, even though they claim that they are. Others are too limited, and at the same time, way too expensive for what they offer.

Free VPNs exist too, but most of the time, they will record your data and sell it to anyone willing to pay for it, which endangers your privacy. Check out the dangers of ‘free' VPNs here.

Fortunately, there are also many great providers, such as:

  1. ExpressVPN
  2. CyberGhost VPN
  3. NordVPN

Using one of these VPNs will let you get access to your AP scores early. My favourite is ExpressVPN, but the choice is yours.

But, not just that they'll also increase your online security and there are a few other neat features like being able to unblock other Netflix regions or watching services from overseas like the UK's BBC iPlayer and more.

How to view your AP scores with a VPN?

One last thing to explain is how to get a VPN and use it to view your scores.

The method is quick and all you need to do is follow a few short steps:

  1. Choose a VPN you wish to use, such as ExpressVPN.
  2. Go to its website and sign up for an account.
  3. You will have to enter your email and a payment method, as well as choose a payment plan.
  4. After that, download a VPN app for the device you wish to use. You can do it from the website or an app store. Multiple devices and systems are supported.
  5. Install the app, launch it, and log into it.
  6. Click on the Selected Location, then All Locations, Americas and press the arrow next to the United States.
  7. Then select a location in a state you wish to connect to.
  8. After that, any online service will think that you are located in the same state as the server, and you will be able to go and see the results right away.

ExpressVPN lets you pick a state to connect to.

Conclusion

It's super-easy to view your results early and make plans based on what they reveal. You only need a VPN app to do it.

Keep in mind that your VPN of choice might not have servers in every US state. In fact, it most likely won't have them everywhere.

However, It will probably have a server in at least one state where you can see the results early, so go for it, spare yourself from having to wait for days and discover your results right now.
