ExpressVPN launches portable Aircove Go VPN router

ExpressVPN Aircove Go

ExpressVPN, a leading name in consumer privacy and security, has unveiled its latest innovation: the Aircove Go.

This portable Wi-Fi 6 router, designed to fit in the palm of your hand, offers built-in VPN protection for an unlimited number of devices.

Aimed at providing digital security for users on the move, especially those residing in compact living spaces or frequently away from home, Aircove Go aims to be a significant step forward in the realm of internet privacy.

The British Virgin Islands-based company announced the release of Aircove Go on March 14, 2024, marking a new milestone in their commitment to user privacy and security.

This lightweight, USB-C powered device promises to deliver the same robust VPN functionality and advanced protection features that won the original Aircove router critical acclaim.

With a claimed simple setup process that transforms any Wi-Fi connection into a secure, VPN-protected network, Aircove Go addresses the growing concern over the vulnerabilities of public Wi-Fi networks.

Enhanced Portability and Security

ExpressVPN claims a recent study has shown that 40% of users have experienced personal information compromise while using public Wi-Fi, with incidents predominantly occurring in places like airports, restaurants, and cafes.

Aircove Go aims to mitigate these risks by offering a portable solution that can secure online activities anywhere.

According to David Gilbert, staff product manager at Aircove, this device is designed as a digital security companion, enabling users to carry their home network security with them, ensuring safe internet access in hotels, co-working spaces, and more.

One of Aircove Go’s standout features is its Wi-Fi Link capability, which allows for easy connection to local Wi-Fi networks without the need for an Ethernet cable.

This enhances its portability and convenience, making it an ideal choice for travellers, digital nomads, and those working remotely.

ExpressVPN claims this is an exclusive Aircove Go feature, however the Invizbox Go* available since 2016 already offers this functionality.

Furthermore, its user-centric design caters to a wide array of needs, from families seeking parental controls to safeguard their children’s digital wellbeing, to individuals in small apartments or dormitories looking to secure smart home devices against online threats.

Despite ExpressVPN’s claim of Aircove Go being the first portable router with built-in VPN protection, it’s important to note that this is not entirely accurate.

The InvizBox Go, a similarly portable VPN router powered by battery, was successfully crowdfunded in 2015 and released in 2016. (*VPNCompare’s parent company owns a small stake in Invizbox Ltd.)

The router also shares several similarities to the already available Beryl AX (GL-MT3000) portable router with VPN functionality.

Seamless Connectivity and User-Focused Design

Nonetheless, Aircove Go’s introduction represents a significant advancement in the VPN router market, offering features and functionalities tailored to today’s digital security demands and potentially one of the very first hardware products of its type released by a leading VPN provider.

The Aircove Go is equipped with two external antennas, dual-band Wi-Fi, and a quad-core CPU, ensuring fast and reliable internet access for areas up to 750 square feet.

Its security features, including a Network Lock kill switch, ad blocking, and automatic updates, provide comprehensive protection for all connected devices.

This router is available for purchase on Amazon at a price of $169.90, with a 1-year warranty and a 30-day return policy. New ExpressVPN users also benefit from a 30-day free trial, though an ExpressVPN subscription is required for VPN functionalities.

In summary, ExpressVPN’s Aircove Go emerges as a compelling solution for those seeking enhanced privacy and security in an increasingly connected world.

Despite the earlier presence of portable VPN routers in the market, Aircove Go’s blend of portability, ease of use, and comprehensive security features makes it a noteworthy addition to ExpressVPN’s suite of privacy-focused products.

As digital security becomes a paramount concern for users worldwide, innovations like Aircove Go play a crucial role in enabling safe and secure internet access, regardless of location.
