CyberGhost VPN is considered one of the best providers out there, but if you're after cancelling, then you'll want to do it with the minimum of fuss.
That's what we'll be teaching you in this guide, how to cancel and it won't take more than a few minutes of your time.
If you have signed up for CyberGhost VPN, and then decided that you do not like it or do not need it anymore, you can easily cancel at any time. A VPN subscription is no different than a Netflix subscription in that regard, and cancelling is almost equally as simple to do.
Don't get us wrong – CyberGhost is great and all, it's well-respected, and it's been around long enough to know better. However, we understand that it might not be for everyone.
If this is the situation you are in, you have come to the right place, and below we will explain how to cancel.
How to stop CyberGhost from taking any more payments
The first thing you should do is stop CyberGhost from taking additional payments, especially if you are on a monthly plan, or if one of the more extended plans is approaching the billing date.
There are two ways to do this.
1) Within 45 days of subscribing
If you have decided that you don't like or need CyberGhost within the first 45 days from the moment of purchase, you're in luck.
You will be able to get your money back, as CyberGhost has one of the longest money-back guarantees in the industry.
Yep, that's right – your entire money back, not just a little bit of it.
To cancel your subscription, go to the VPN app itself.
On a computer find ‘My Account‘ and then ‘Manage my account‘. Hit the button on the left, named ‘My Subscriptions‘ and then on the right-hand side press ‘Turn auto-renewal of‘.
On a mobile device press the Settings icon and then ‘Open account management‘. In the account status section, you can then stop any more payments being taken.
IMPORTANT: Stopping payments does not trigger a refund. You'll then need to send their support a direct message requesting a refund within your 45-day rights.
2) After 45 days
Let's say that you took one of the longer plans, and it has already been 45 days since the moment of purchase.
Unfortunately, you won't get your money back at this point.
But, you can still just as quickly turn off auto-renewal, and that will be it. You can use the VPN until the time you bought runs out, or delete it from your devices; the choice is yours.
How to stop a Google Play subscription
If you downloaded CyberGhost on your Android and you signed up via the app, then you can cancel there too.
All you need to do is go to the Play Store app and tap on the ‘hamburger' button on the left from the search field.
Once you open it, find Subscriptions, and then tap the CyberGhost VPN icon.
Select ‘Cancel subscription‘ and confirm any requirements.
How to stop an Apple iTunes subscription
If you used CyberGhost on your iOS device, the steps are relatively similar. Start by opening the Settings icon on your iOS device, and proceed to your iTunes account or your name in the top part of the screen.
Next, choose the iTunes & App Store, and select Apple ID. There, choose View Apple ID, and proceed to sign in with your password.
Scroll down, and find Subscriptions. After entering, locate CyberGhost and tap Cancel Subscription, and you're done.
Things to consider before cancelling
We understand that you may have already set your mind on cancelling your CyberGhost account, but it might be worth reconsidering.
Depending on what your issue is – a technical problem, lack of functionality, or something else – perhaps there is a solution.
Like any service, they don't always work smoothly for every user due to different device types, set-ups and other factors. Often issues with the service can be resolved quickly.
If your app is giving you trouble, it might be better to try contacting customer support via live chat or email and seeking help. They are capable of resolving different issues, so you might try that before giving up on the VPN entirely.
Consider an alternative VPN
If it turns out that CyberGhost isn't for you, it's worth considering a different VPN.
Just because things didn't work out with CyberGhost, it doesn't mean that you will have the same experience with other providers. It's better to be using a VPN for your protection than not.
One great alternative is ExpressVPN. It offers just as reliable protection as CyberGhost, with a massive server network that spans through 94 different countries.
It offers fast downloads, with reasonable prices and great discounts on long-term plans such as their 12-month package which is 49% cheaper. It's also one of the best for unblocking content like Netflix, BBC iPlayer and it's working in all countries, including China.
NordVPN is another great option that will give you secure and private access to the internet.
It is capable of protecting all of your devices, and it will even let you protect as many as six of them at the same time. It has over 5,700 servers in 60 countries, and it won't retain any logs of your activity.
Finally, we would also recommend IPVanish. This is a great VPN for disappearing online completely. You get fast speeds, private connections, and complete online freedom.
Its money-back guarantee is somewhat shorter, only lasting for around seven days. However, it more than makes up for it with its low prices.
Do not get discouraged if you tried CyberGhost, and things did not work out. A VPN is still the best online security technology out there, and with so many privacy risks online, it's critical to be using one.
Don't forget it's worth trying to resolve any issues directly as you could save yourself the hassle of cancelling or getting a refund.
If you do go through with your refund check out one of our suggested providers above or any in our VPN Comparison Guide to stay secure online.
