How to watch Amstel Gold live online for free

Amstel Gold

It is an exciting time for fans of cycling, as some of the biggest and most popular events are taking place throughout Europe.

After the Paris-Roubaix race, it is time to move towards the hills of southern Belgium and Holland, where the next big events known as Ardennes Classics will be held, the first of which is the Amstel Gold Race.

As always, fans from around the world are interested in watching the race live. The only thing standing in their way is the limited number of live streams offering the race; that, and geo-restrictions.

So if you want to know how you can live stream all the action in your location without an expensive cable subscription, read on my cycling friend.

Where can you watch the Amstel Gold?

Despite the popularity of cycling races, there is not a lot of streaming services that will broadcast them live. As a result, Amstel Gold fans might find it difficult to watch the race live, at least without help.

The best streaming service to watch it on would be SBS On Demand. However, the problem is that this is an Australian service and that it is geo-restricted so that only Australians can access it.

If you are located elsewhere in the world, you won’t be able to watch it without a good VPN, such as ExpressVPN.

What’s the best VPN?

As mentioned, the best VPN would be ExpressVPN, which has the best speeds, and a massive server network which covers 94 different countries around the world.

Its speeds are genuinely among the top ones in the industry, and during our tests, we even connected to Australian servers from the UK and received excellent speeds.

In other words, with ExpressVPN, you would be able to connect to Australia and stream the race in high quality with ease.

There are other decent services as well, such as IPVanish and NordVPN and you’re free to choose, but ExpressVPN beats them in terms of speed.

When is Amstel Gold taking place?

Amstel Gold will take place Sunday, April 18th, at 10:30 am CET (09:30 am BST / 05:30 am EST).

The race is expected to end at around 17:13 CET (12:13 EST).

If your time zone is different, you can use a site such as The Time Zone Converter to work out the start time in your location.

What’s the Amstel Gold route?

The Amstel Gold race amounts to 256.7 kilometers, going over 35 hills.

The route is similar to that of last year, and the race will start at the Vrijthof in Maastricht.

After that, it will take the cyclists over the first hill, Slingerberg, and then through the Limburg region of the southern Netherlands.

It will include narrow roads, dozens of other hills, and constant twisting and turning until it finally ends in Vilt.

Who’s taking part in Amstel Gold and who is likely to win?

The race is challenging and lengthy, which is why most of the participants are highly experienced.

It will include dozens of teams, including AG2R La Mondiale, Astana Pro Team, Bahrain Merida Pro Cycling Team, BORA – Hansgrohe, CCC Team, Deuceuninck – Quick Step, Dimension Data, EF Education First Pro Cycling Team, Groupama FDJ, Jumbo-Visma, Lotto Soudal, Mitchelton-Scott, Movistar Team, Team Katusha – Alpecin, Team Sky, and many others.

As for the potential winners, many believe that Julian Alaphilippe might be the one to finish the race first, although the Dutch champion Mathieu van der Poel might just as easily take his first Amstel trophy.

Then, there is Roubaix champion Gilbert, who already has four Amstel Gold trophies, and who might want to raise that number to five.

Are VPN apps legal?

Yes, VPN apps are perfectly legal, and you cannot get in trouble with the law for simply using one.

Unlike sketchy streams, VPN apps are completely legitimate privacy tools. A sideline purpose is they allow you to disguise your location which is what allows you to stream the race live from overseas.

Is the SBS On Demand stream legit?

Yes, this is a legitimate streaming service in Australia that always broadcasts cycling events, and which will allow you to watch the race live.

You should take note, however, that there are many sketchy streams out there which are not legit nor legal, and they are also quite low in quality, slow, and often filled with malware.

Using a VPN such as ExpressVPN is a great way to stream the race in high quality from a legitimate overseas stream.

Summary

Amstel Gold race is one of the hottest upcoming cycling events, and fans of the sport from all corners of the world are excited to see how it will end, and who will be victorious.

However, due to the lack of universal streaming services, you and others who wish to watch the race will have to use a VPN in order to watch the race live (unless you’ve already got an expensive cable subscription that is!)

We recommend ExpressVPN, which is one of the fastest in the industry. There’s not long left to prepare, so get your VPN now, put your favourite cycling jersey on and don’t miss the race.
