1. IPVanish

IPVanish Nov 16 Website

IPVanish has been my go to VPN provider for years and in 2017 they remain the best choice.

In our 2017 review I found them fast, reliable and competitive in price with other providers available.

IPVanish has VPN servers in over 60 countries with multiple servers in different cities in many of those locations. They have more than 400 VPN servers in total and access to a massive 40,000 shared IP addresses.

If you want to access geo-blocked content then all major countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and a whole host more are covered so you’ll be able to unblock BBC iPlayer, Hulu, Foxtel, SBS, CBS and many more and stream online from anywhere in the world.

IPVanish uses 256-bit encryption and offers OpenVPN and a host of other protocols allowing you to protect your privacy and stay safe online.

Software is available for Windows and Mac and apps for Android and iOS which allow you to connect simply within 1 or 2 clicks.

2. ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN Nov 16 Website

ExpressVPN is a huge VPN provider and it’s not difficult to see why so many customers love their service.

First off they have VPN servers in more than 87 different countries with 136 cities. Just like IPVanish in many countries they have multiple locations covered giving you a great deal of choice.

ExpressVPN is just slightly slower than IPVanish when it comes to download speeds but the service is highly reliable allowing you to stay connected for long periods of time without any issues.

A full 30-day money back guarantee is available that allows you to test the service with peace of mind. If it’s not for you or not performing how you had hoped then you can get a full refund.

Software is available for Mac and Windows and apps for both iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad and Android devices including both phones and tablets.

ExpressVPN have the bonus of Linux software for Ubuntu so if you’re a Linux user then you’re also covered.

If you want to check out the service then just click the button below to visit the ExpressVPN website and get started.

3. Overplay

Overplay Website Nov 16

Overplay take my third choice as Best VPN for 2017 and with good reason.

Let’s get the negatives out the way first. There are currently no apps for either iOS or Android. They are in the works and expected to be released soon but no release date has been specified yet. You can until then set the service up manually on mobile devices but if you’re an absolute beginner then it’s probably out of your reach.

The good news is both the Windows and Mac software are excellent and a newly redesigned interface makes getting connected simple.

One of the best features of the service is the speed. They’re almost as fast as IPVanish and just as reliable too. If you like to stream high quality video or download a lot then they make a good option.

Overplay come with a free SmartDNS feature that allows you to access geo-blocked content such as TV services without any speed loss. This is a bonus feature that doesn’t come with most other VPN services, however, the monthly cost is slightly higher than IPVanish for example.

Overplay have VPN servers in 40 countries with 400 servers in total making them one of my Best VPN services for 2017. Get started with them by clicking the button below.

4. VPN.ac
VPN.ac Website Jan 17

VPN.ac secure a spot in my Best VPN for 2017 selection due to the overall quality of their service.

They’re a lot smaller provider in terms of coverage and servers available but they are the best options for users who are technical and love strong encryption.

VPN.ac concentrate on offering one of the most secure VPN services and you won’t see many flashy adverts or pushy sales from this dedicated security service.

Although VPN.ac only offer just over 20 countries with VPN servers they’re one of the fastest providers and definitely compete with both IPVanish and Overplay in terms of speed.

Software is available for Mac and Windows and apps for Android and iOS so connection is extremely simple.

One of the best features of VPN.ac is the extra encryption options and if you’re a techie then you’ll love playing around with the security settings they offer which aren’t found at many other providers.

Being a smaller provider they allow access to most geo-blocked TV services and unlike some other providers they’re servers aren’t blocked from accessing those TV services.

5. NordVPN

NordVPN Website Jan 17

A few years ago NordVPN weren’t my favourite provider because I found their speeds to be lacking.

Over the past few years though NordVPN have heavily invested in the network and infrastructure and have turned their fortunes on their head and now the service competes with some of the best.

NordVPN has VPN servers in 57 countries and while this is smaller than some they have more servers in those countries totalling around 775.

NordVPN have won numerous awards in recent months from big online publications and in our own 2017 review we found them to be a serious contender in the VPN market.

Software is available for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android which is really easy to use and user-friendly.

A 30-day money back guarantee is available which gives you practically a full month to test the service for all your privacy and geo-unblocking needs to see if it’s up to the job. If not then you can simply get a full refund.
