5 Best Alternatives to HideMyAss

Best Alternatives to HideMyAss

In this guide we’re looking at HideMyAss VPN alternatives. We’ve been testing a range of VPN services so if you after switching from HideMyAss or you’re just considering alternative providers then read below to find out the information you need.

HideMyAss is one of the biggest VPN providers in the industry. They’re also one of the most well known and with a catchy name it’s not hard to see why.

Being one of the biggest ultimately means they’re not actually the best and often their success rides solely on their easy to remember name.

For the same amount of money or less you can find services that are not only faster but also offer more.

Below we’ve rounded up 5 of the best alternatives to HideMyAss. Just choose one and sign up, you won’t be disappointed.

5 Best Alternatives to HideMyAss

IPVanish Apps1. IPVanish

Best alternative to HideMyAss

VPN Countries : 60 | VPN Servers : 700 | Simultaneous Connections : 5

Price : $6.49 p/m (≈ £4.79)

Apps for all major devices

A lot faster than HideMyAss

No live help

When it comes to alternatives to HideMyAss, IPVanish is our number one choice.

One of the major reasons why IPVanish outperform HideMyAss is speed. There is really no comparison between both. In our tests and yearly reviewing of both services we found that IPVanish was considerably faster on both local servers and servers at distance.

HideMyAss appear to have many more server locations than IPVanish but many of these are virtual servers, there is no physical server in the country it claims to be, this is a privacy risk. IPVanish, on the other hand, has physical servers in the countries they claim to be in so you can be sure your data is passing through the location you want it to.

Although both are comparable on apps, we found the IPVanish apps ever so slightly easier to use plus they have an additional Amazon app which makes using a VPN on the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick simple. You can also couple it for use with Kodi keeping you protected when you stream.

Best alternative to HideMyAss

2. ExpressVPN

Best VPN for server locations

VPN Countries : 94 | VPN Cities : 145 | Simultaneous Connections : 3

Price : $8.32 p/m (≈ £6.14)

Big location list

30-day money back guarantee

Can seem expensive

If you’ve previously used HideMyAss or you’ve been comparing then the number of country locations is what will stand out.

While ExpressVPN doesn’t offer nearly as many they are one of the biggest competitors in the industry and if locations are your main concern then looking here is a good start.

One of our favourite features which compares with HideMyAss’s offering is the huge 30-day money back guarantee so it’s no riskier trying ExpressVPN than it is HideMyAss and in our opinion, the service is substantially better.

Both services are comparable on apps and software and are available for Android, iOS, Windows, Mac and even Linux so you’re covered the same even if you make the switch to ExpressVPN.

ExpressVPN is a fraction more expensive than HideMyAss but if you can stretch to a dollar or so more we think you’ll get a far superior service.

Proxy.sh website

3. Proxy.sh

Best VPN for encryption

VPN Countries : 57 | VPN Servers : 300+ | Simultaneous Connections : 3

Price : $7.50 p/m (≈ £5.54)

 Better encryption and policies

 More secure than HideMyAss

 Can be a little expensive

HideMyAss is often criticised for the security of their service. They tend to use lower end security and encryption modes than many other providers.

We found their speeds to be lacking in comparison to most providers and Proxy.sh is by far leaps ahead in the speed stakes.

Surprisingly Proxy.sh uses far greater encryption standards than HideMyAss and manages to offer far superior speeds. Greater encryption usually decreases speeds so it just goes to show the quality of the Proxy.sh network.

Proxy.sh are also registered off-shore in the Seychelles which removes them from some of the restrictions of VPN services like HideMyAss who are registered in the UK.

If there were any kind of logging requirements introduced in the UK then HideMyAss would fall under them while Proxy.sh wouldn’t.

VyprVPN Website

4. VyprVPN

Best VPN for trial

VPN Countries : 70 | VPN Servers : 700+ | Simultaneous Connections : 3 – 5

Price : $6.67 p/m  (≈ £4.92)

3-day free trial

Extra VPN modes

Torrent use discouraged

If you’re already sold on HideMyAss or you’re already a customer and you’re a little apprehensive about trying an alternative provider then VyprVPN is where you should look.

They offer a completely free 3-day trial that allows you to test the service without paying. You will need to enter your payment details to test the service but if you cancel before the 3-days expire you won’t be charged anything.

Of course, if you think it’s better than HideMyAss after testing it you don’t need to do anything and you’ll be charged for your first billing period after the 3 days elapse.

One of our favourite features of the VyprVPN service is the additional Chameleon VPN protocol which is based on OpenVPN but with disguised headers allowing you to break through restrictive firewalls. It’s also the best VPN for China or any other country that actively try to block VPN connections.

NordVPN Website Jan 17

5. NordVPN

Best value for money

VPN Countries : 58 | VPN Servers : 744 | Simultaneous Connections : 6

Price : $6.58 p/m  (≈ £4.86)

Good online reviews

Nice selection of servers

Not the fastest

NordVPN has been around a good number of years now and has grown dramatically. In our own review we found them to offer one of the better VPN services and if online reviews by customers are anything to go on then they’re also well thought of by their users.

There are many advantages to using NordVPN over HideMyAss and one of our favourite reasons is the added options. We especially like the double-hop servers which pass your connection through two different locations giving you added privacy.

Another aspect of the service we like is the fact you can pay with Bitcoin. Unlike HideMyAss, NordVPN accepts this popular cryptocurrency allowing you to pay for the service relatively anonymously.

While paying with Bitcoin might not be for you it does give you an added option to increase your privacy and with VPN services privacy is the name of the game.

HideMyAss certainly isn’t the worse VPN provider in the world and it is suitable for some uses.

However, from a privacy and security aspect, there are far better providers out there. In the speed stakes it’s also possible to find a faster provider.

Ultimately the 5 providers listed above offer more for the same or less so it makes sense to consider one of these because you’ll get far more for your money and have a much better and more pleasant VPN experience.

All that’s left to do now is choose one of the 5 above and sign-up. It doesn’t matter which you choose, you really can’t go wrong.
